Trevisan | LinkedIn Page Messages: A Comprehensive Guide

Welcome to all of this week’s new subscribers to The Link Tank®️ newsletter; my newsletter always focuses on the practical: Real, implementable strategies to increase your LinkedIn ROI, sometimes focusing on the what but always focusing on the how

LinkedIn has revolutionised professional networking and job hunting, offering more than just profile pages. One of their most innovative features is the ability for company pages to receive and send messages – a feature that, in theory, promotes real-time communication and engagement with the audience.

This newsletter will provide a detailed overview of LinkedIn Page Messages, including how to enable this feature, manage incoming messages, and best practices to optimise engagement.

What is LinkedIn Page Messaging?

LinkedIn Page Messaging is a feature that allows LinkedIn members to send messages to company pages directly. This feature, presently being rolled out to selected pages, facilitates a seamless two-way communication between businesses and their audience.

Enabling LinkedIn Page Messages

You must first enable this feature to allow members to send messages to your Page. As a page administrator, follow these steps on your desktop:

  • Navigate to the admin view and select ‘Inbox’ in the left menu.
  • Click on the ‘More’ icon (represented by three dots).
  • Choose ‘Inbox settings’ from the dropdown menu.
  • Turn on the ‘Message button’ toggle on the right.
  • Select a minimum of two conversation topics and click ‘Save’ in the upper-right corner.

To disable messaging, simply toggle the button to ‘off’ and save. However, please note that members can still reply to existing conversations even after messaging has been disabled.

Managing LinkedIn Page Messages

  • Once you’ve enabled messaging, managing the incoming messages is crucial. As a super or content admin on a LinkedIn Page, you can manage messages from your Page inbox. Here’s how:
  • Access your Page super or content admin view on desktop or mobile.
  • Click on ‘Inbox’ in the left menu.
  • Use the ‘Filter’ icon to sort messages by status or topic.

Select a conversation to read or reply to messages. You can edit the conversation topic by clicking the ‘More’ menu in the upper-right corner of a message.

Remember, admins can view who sent each message, but member names are not visible.

If a message is spam or inappropriate, admins can restrict the member or mark the message as spam. Options include stopping further messages from the member, moving the message to a spam folder, muting the conversation, or reporting the message.

Best Practices for LinkedIn Page Messages

As with any other tool, there are certain best practices to follow to make the most out of LinkedIn Page Messages.

  • Regularly check your inbox: Ensure that you always respond promptly to incoming messages. Timely responses are essential for customer service and engagement.
  • Assign a dedicated role for replies: Since responses come directly from the Page and not from the individual admin, it’s best to have a consistent tone in your responses. Assign this task to a single admin to maintain consistency.
  • Encourage members to use the feature: Inspire your audience to get in touch with you by inviting them to message you. This could be a great way to share resources, capture leads, and facilitate direct communication.
  • Remember that LinkedIn Page Messages are more than just a communication tool. They’re an opportunity to engage with your audience, resolve queries, and build relationships. Make sure to use this feature wisely to maximise its potential.

Our experience so far has been that people still prefer to send a message via our website. Still, LinkedIn Page Messages can be a powerful tool in your arsenal, providing a direct line of communication with your audience.

By following best practices, regularly checking your inbox, and encouraging users to utilise this feature, you can significantly enhance your LinkedIn presence and engagement.
